The movie revolves around a women Peggy (molly Shannon) and her dog Pencil and the unconditional love they share with each other. Though she is very lonely in this crowded world still her emptiness is filled by the presence of the dog in her life. She not only shares a home with him but with whom can smile about the uptight marriage of her brother Pier (Thomas McCarthy) and sister-in-law Bret (Laura Dern), the romantic complaints of her co-worker Layla (Regina King) and also the sniveling insecurity of her boss, Robin (Josh Pais). However the life takes a turn when her only hope of life pencil dies. her life comes to an end and she finds herself all alone even though surrounded by so many people. she even accepts a dinner date by her neighbor Al (John C. Reilly),then she also turns emotionally towards a dog trainer Newt (Peter Sarsqaard) who instead of love offers her a badly behaved German shepherd. Finally she latches on to animal rights commission and even drags her young niece to slaughterhouse, putting her greatly into financial and legal jeopardy. So this movie through Peggy brings out the real picture of today’s society. Peggy fights for justice to show the world like humans, animals too have a right to live a proper life where they can get love and not just hatred.
