In the movie Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day, Miss Pettigrew (Frances McDormand) is a frumpy, middle-aged governess who, through a series of misadventures, finds herself out of work and with no place to live. She takes a chance and goes on an interview which isn’t actually meant for her, during which she meets a ditsy actress named Delysia Lafosse (Amy Adams). Delysia has a life complicated by her affiliations with three different men, Phil (Tom Payne), Nick (Mark Strong), and Michael (Lee Pace). Miss Pettigrew is hired by Delysia and attempts to do her best to help the actress win the stage role she wants while juggling the three suitors. Meanwhile, Miss Pettigrew herself grows attracted to fashion designer Joe Blomfeld (Ciaran Hinds).
